GOP gubernatorial candidate Anthony Hudson is planning a march through Dearborn on Tuesday “to protect Americans from Sharia law.”

Dawud Walid, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations Michigan Chapter, is urging residents to ignore the march.

"This so-called march is nothing more than a cynical attempt to stir up anti-Muslim sentiment and score cheap political points with like-minded extremists. Michigan residents - Muslims and people of other faiths or no faith - understand that our state’s strength comes from its diversity and unity," Walid said in a statement. "We urge the community not to give this anti-Muslim publicity stunt the attention its organizers are so desperately seeking. Ignoring it is the most effective way to deny them the spotlight they crave."

Sharia law is Islamic law for Muslims derived from the Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad.

In a posting on X, Hudson wrote:

"The march in Dearborn is to protect AMERICANS from Sharia law and those in the community. We have heard from many individuals Christian and Muslim who have expressed concerns about individuals in their community looking to implement Sharia law on the community or threatening them for their beliefs. Not all Muslims are extremeists. Stop acting like we think that. There are also Muslims who have converted to Christianty in Dearborn and they have expressed the realities of the situatuion to us. Very eye opening and you should do some critical and spirtual thinking. Your energy is off and dark."

The Grand Blanch Township resident who is a truck driver was born and raised in Texas. He moved to Michigan 13 years ago to be a father to his kids after his divorce.

He has little if any chance of winning the Republican nomination for governor.
