The second Detroit mayoral candidate forum is set for Thursday, May 15, at 5:30 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club at 16500 Tireman Avenue on the city's far west side. The first forum was held last Saturday.

The confirmed candidates for the forum include Fred Durhal III, James Craig, Mary Sheffield, Saunteel Jenkins, and Todd Perkins.

Hosts of the forum include Our Own Wall Street, Black Women in Michigan Politics, Cody Rouge Community Action Alliance, and Michigan United. Moderators are Freman Hendrix, former deputy mayor; Porsha Monique, journalist and community advocate; and JerJuan Howard, youth organizer and grassroots leader.

“This forum isn’t just about politics—it’s about the future of Detroit,” said Chenita W. Gary, founder and executive director of Our Own Wall Street, in a statement. “We are creating a space where voters can engage directly with candidates, hold them accountable, and make informed decisions.”

Candidates will deliver three-minute opening statements and respond to questions from the audience and moderators.

Space is limited, but community members, local leaders, and members of the media are encouraged to attend. To register, click here. It's also expected to be streamed on YouTube.

The mayoral primary is Tuesday, Aug. 5—just over three months from now.
