Ex-Detroit Police Chief James Craig, who’s had no success running for public office since leaving the department, is going to try again.
Craig has filed paperwork to form a campaign committee, which gives him the green light to fundraise for the August primary, Bridge Detroit reports.
He's expected to make an official announcement next Wednesday.
Craig retired from the department in 2021 and then ran as a Republican for governor, but his campaign was derailed after election officials found that too many of the signatures on his petition to get on the ballot were bogus.
He again announced that he was running for the Senate race for 2024 but dropped out early on.
He joins a crowded field that includes Council President Mary Sheffield, former Council President Saunteel Jenkins, attorney Todd Perkins, Rev. Solomon Kinloch Jr., City Councilman Fred Durhal III, businessman Jonathan Barlow, businessman Joel Haashiim, and activist Rogelio Landin.
