In a bizarre case making national headlines, a western Michigan mother reportedly told police she fatally stabbed her 17-year-old son to help him fulfill his wish of dying before his 18th birthday, Wood-TV in Grand Rapids reports.
Katie Austin Lee of Holland, Mich., was arraigned this week on charges of open murder and resisting an officer following the stabbing death of her son, Austin Dean Pikaart, last week at their apartment.
He would have turned 18 on Saturday.
The woman called 911, and police had to use a Taser at the apartment after she refused to drop the knife, the station reported.
