Former WDIV reporter Chauncy Glover, who had been an anchor at KCAL in Los Angeles since last year, died unexpectedly on Tuesday. He was 39.

His station, which reported the death, posted this about the Emmy Award-winning journalist:

"We, Sherry and Robert Glover, along with Chauncy's beloved family, are devastated by the unimaginable loss of our beloved Chauncy," the Glover family wrote in a statement. "He was more than a son and brother—he was a beacon of light in our lives and a true hero to his community."

The station did not disclose the cause of death.

His station bio said:

Chauncy was bitten by the news bug at the age of 5 when his dad built him his very own mini "anchor desk" for his newscasts that he would perform for his family every Sunday after church.

Glover started his TV career at WTVM News Leader 9 in Columbus, Georgia. Two years later, he joined CBS 47 and Fox 30 in Jacksonville, Fla.,  as a special projects and general assignment reporter.

In December 2011, he joined WDIV in Detroit, and within months was promoted to a lead late night reporter, according to his bio.

He won three Emmy's for his storytelling and live reports in Detroit as well as his live reporting during Hurricane Harvey—where he rescued a woman in labor, helping deliver the baby, the bio said.

In 2015, he moved to KTRK in Houston where he started as a weekend Morning anchor. In 2018, he became the first black male Main Evening Anchor. In October 2003, he moved to the Los Angeles station.
